Scott Penberthy, Director of Applied AI at Google

Scott is the Director of Applied AI at Google. In this role, he leads a team of AI engineers and PhDs who help VIPs reimagine the production of goods and services and how value is exchanged in free markets. His team applies current and upcoming AI technologies to materialize proofs of concept and drive long-term transformations. Prior to this role, Scott was a Technical Director in the Office of the CTO, a group at Google dedicated to helping customers thrive in the world of cloud computing. Scott kept one foot in the AI labs of Silicon Valley, the other in Wall Street and board rooms. Demand skyrocketed and he was asked to build a team focused on AI.

Mike Del Balso, Former Head of Machine Learning at Uber

Mike was the head of the machine-learning team at Uber. He currently started a new AI company and raised money from the top venture capitalists in the world. Prior to this, he served as a product manager at Google where he managed the core machine-learning systems that power Google’s Search Ads business. Previous to that, he worked on Google Maps. He was a participant of Next 36, where he co-founded Play Fit, and holds a BSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering summa cum laude from the University of Toronto.

No, you just need to be curious and interested in AI and technology. It’s ok if you don’t know much about the technical side. However, if you have background knowledge, that’s great.

We will prioritize students that demonstrate a strong level of curiosity and interest in emerging technology and science. AI can be applied to a variety of industries and problems, so we’re looking for people who are curious about how AI can make an impact on the world. The more effort you put into your application, the higher chance you’ll be invited.

Yes. In fact, by inviting others you will increase your chances of being invited to the event. In the application there is a section where people can include who referred them. If you refer others, please make sure they include your name in their application.

The Knowledge Society (TKS) is a 10-month accelerator program for students ages 11-17 who want to make an impact on the world. We have programs across multiple cities. There is an application and interview process before being accepted into TKS. To learn more, click here.
